From ReformedWord
There are many different genres within the Bible and they should all be read differently. It is very hard to decide how much to read at a sitting, since divisions within the text are highly disputed. In general, the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) is less philosophical and more narrative, whereas the Greek Texts (New Testament) is highly intricate and very tightly packed. Everyone can agree that the chapter divisions in the Book of Psalms are legitimate. The Book of Proverbs consists mostly of aphorisms, which are generally one verse in length. Hence, our reading program consists of a Psalm a day, a Proverbs per day, around two Old Testament chapters per day and about 30 verses from the New Testament per day. Believing the Fourth Commandment to be unabrogated in our day, there are no assignments on Sundays.
