The Old Testament is the part of the Bible which details events prior to the Incarnation of Jesus Christ. The name comes from an older word for covenant, but should not be confused with the Old Covenant. A vast majority is written in Hebrew, but some is written in Aramaic. None of the Old Testament uses our modern, Western style of organization, instead the primary structure is the chiasm. Through the diverse genres of Historical Literature, Wisdom Literture and Prophetic Literature, types and shadows of God's Plan of Salvation are made clearer and clearer and expectations are heightened as to how men may be redeemed. Apart from the first two chapters of Genesis, everything is about human sinfulness and God's dealing with it.
