The Book of Ezekiel is the 26th book of the Bible and the largest Major Prophets by far. Ezekiel the Prophet wrote the book after being carried off to Babylon in 597 B.C. It is primarily a judgment against Israel for having disobeyed the Lord for so long.

The Jewish rabbis often spoke of the difficulty of Ezekiel and, according to the church father Jerome, in his time Jews under 30 years of age were forbidden to read the beginning and the end of the book. Block, i, 44 The prophet's relentless denunciations are not a popular theme in our day and his unconventional antics seem much stranger to us than they would have to Ezekiel's original audience. And so it remains true that for most Christians Ezekiel is largely a closed book.
